Fronz Arp DIY Diary

I'm an independent musician who writes, records and (currently) releases his music himself. On this blog, I'm going to attempt to write an account of what I do, what I achieve and what I learn from week to week

Under Our Make Up

The lyrics of my song Under Our make up were inspired by the story of Craig Gee, a young man from Sydney who was brutally assaulted in 2007 while walking along holding his boyfriend’s hand. The incident sparked a vigil against rising homophobic violence in Sydney and Craig went on to lead the 2008 Mardi Gras with Margaret Cho

UNDER OUR MAKE UP

I knew you’d been through a lot
Like you’ve been walking through the dark
You thought I was someone else and started to protect yourself

But under our make up
We’re both just the same boys
We’re all just the same
In different ways but
Here under our make up
We’re all just the same

I thought but I wasn’t sure
And you were feeling insecure
I thought you’d pushed me away
But you wiped your tears across my face

You said under our make up
We’re both just the same boys
We’re all just the same
Here comes the shake up
That under our make up
We’re all just the same

I’m such a mess but I saw it coming
If you missed the start well here’s the part where we’re in danger
And with nowhere left to turn we just run and run and run

In different ways
Here under our make up
We’re all just the same
Here comes the shake up
Under our make up
We’re all just the same

☆ Track of the Day #650 ☆

I do remember thinking the original was wonderful - and it is! - but this cover, acoustic and with a different prosody (rhythm and stress of the lyrics), gives this song something truly incredible.

Makes you want to fall in love doesn’t it? By now I should’ve somehow realised what I gotta do…

Out of the Blue

My song “Out of the Blue” was originally inspired lyrically by the novel “The Adventures of Kavelier and Clay” by Michael Chabon (which is amazing) and the complex relationships of his characters, where its never as simple as a thunderbolt of attraction.

lyrics

When will thunder and lightning hit me from above
This is better then nothing so I started a dumb conversation then you’re
The centre of all my attention and then
Suddenly its starting

And I want something new
I feel it arriving out of the blue
Its taking me over slowly, you and me, 1,2

I stumbled around it and didn’t know why
But what I finally found I didn’t see because I’ve been waiting so long
And its felt like nothing has changed in so long
But suddenly its starting

And I want something new
I feel it arriving out of the blue
Its taking me over slowly, you and me, 1,2

I could have been your passenger
I could’ve been your midnight stranger

When will thunder and lightning hit me from above
Is this better then nothing so I started a dumb conversation

Then suddenly its starting
And I want something new
I feel it arriving out of the blue
Its taking me over slowly, you and me, 1,2
Its taking me over slowly, you and me, 1,2
Its taking me over slowly, you and me, 1,2

I could have been your passenger
I could’ve been your midnight stranger

Designer Children

I made a new video to my song “Designer Children” using a fantastic Creative Commons video called “Destiny” (by Fabien Weibel). It fits together quite nicely. Check it out
