Fronz Arp DIY Diary

I'm an independent musician who writes, records and (currently) releases his music himself. On this blog, I'm going to attempt to write an account of what I do, what I achieve and what I learn from week to week

Listen/purchase: Kamikaze (Going Down) by Fronz Arp

Kamikaze is a song about falling off the wagon when you’re depressed; about the times I’ve gone out to have a crazy time just to cover how I’m feeling (which often means it goes wwaaayyy over the top)

I had a lot of trouble producing this track, since the melody and lyrics are quite complicated it was hard to fit a standard arrangement around. In the end, deleting most of he drum kit was the only thing that worked
lyrics
I jumped upon a rocket to outer space
And it shot us into orbit kaboom
And I couldn’t get the wreckage back off my face
When we crashed into the side of the moon
And now I’m falling apart

Hey hey, I’m trying but I can’t remember the days
Hey hey, the spin around my head a-rat-a-tat-a-tat

Can you come and take me out because I’m falling
Can you come and take me out get me high
But the oxygen has got me feeling like a kamikaze going down

I message hit us straight out of ground control
It said that no one’s coming back here alive
So I was lifted up to an all-time-low
But its easier then just getting by

Hey hey, I’m trying but I can’t remember the names
Hey hey, the spin around my head a-rat-a-tat-a-tat

Can you come and take me out because I’m falling
Can you come and take me out get me high
But the oxygen has got me feeling like a kamikaze going down

Listen/purchase: Jerks by Fronz Arp

Check out my latest song release JERKS on Bandcamp
LYRICS:
You’re such a jerk
Coming down on the nice guy
And I’m so afraid
Of what you’ll find when the doubt comes in
Because you never admit to your guarded emotions
You take what you need before you go
When will it stop
When will it stop

You’re such a jerk
Bringing guns to the knife fight
But we’re just the same
We’re just so scare to let the outside in
Because you never admit to your guarded emotions
You take what you need before you go
When will it stop
When will it stop

Listen/purchase: Technology (Keeping Us Apart) v2.0 by Fronz Arp

For those long time followers, you’ll recognise the title from the Fronz Arp is a Tiny Crooked Orchestra project of 2012. This is an all-new song that uses the original version of the lyrics, except the final verse was inspired by the more recent revelations of violations of online privacy.

These lyrics are about that hard-to-define, diminishing humanity caused by focus on disembodied online relationships. The disconnection of being able to create yourself online as you wish to be and then spread yourself around, make friends or meet partners, based on this false identity. I find it fascinating and somehow wrong, though can’t, like many people, put my finger on the definite reason why it feels wrong

lyrics
I’m afraid technology
Is keeping us apart
That constant communication
Is not the cure to being alone

Can you hear me
You’re breaking up
I cannot understand

I’m afraid my one true love
May never hear my voice
Above the city traffic
Could they hear me above the noise

Can you hear me
We’re breaking up
I cannot understand

I’m afraid the NSA
Has got their eyes on me
But not as scared that when they look
There’d be nothing for them to see

Can you hear me
I’m breaking up
And I cannot understand

I’m afraid technology
Is keeping us apart
Is tearing us apart
Keeps tearing us apart

Under Our Make Up

The lyrics of my song Under Our make up were inspired by the story of Craig Gee, a young man from Sydney who was brutally assaulted in 2007 while walking along holding his boyfriend’s hand. The incident sparked a vigil against rising homophobic violence in Sydney and Craig went on to lead the 2008 Mardi Gras with Margaret Cho

UNDER OUR MAKE UP

I knew you’d been through a lot
Like you’ve been walking through the dark
You thought I was someone else and started to protect yourself

But under our make up
We’re both just the same boys
We’re all just the same
In different ways but
Here under our make up
We’re all just the same

I thought but I wasn’t sure
And you were feeling insecure
I thought you’d pushed me away
But you wiped your tears across my face

You said under our make up
We’re both just the same boys
We’re all just the same
Here comes the shake up
That under our make up
We’re all just the same

I’m such a mess but I saw it coming
If you missed the start well here’s the part where we’re in danger
And with nowhere left to turn we just run and run and run

In different ways
Here under our make up
We’re all just the same
Here comes the shake up
Under our make up
We’re all just the same

☆ Track of the Day #650 ☆

I do remember thinking the original was wonderful - and it is! - but this cover, acoustic and with a different prosody (rhythm and stress of the lyrics), gives this song something truly incredible.

Makes you want to fall in love doesn’t it? By now I should’ve somehow realised what I gotta do…

Out of the Blue

My song “Out of the Blue” was originally inspired lyrically by the novel “The Adventures of Kavelier and Clay” by Michael Chabon (which is amazing) and the complex relationships of his characters, where its never as simple as a thunderbolt of attraction.

lyrics

When will thunder and lightning hit me from above
This is better then nothing so I started a dumb conversation then you’re
The centre of all my attention and then
Suddenly its starting

And I want something new
I feel it arriving out of the blue
Its taking me over slowly, you and me, 1,2

I stumbled around it and didn’t know why
But what I finally found I didn’t see because I’ve been waiting so long
And its felt like nothing has changed in so long
But suddenly its starting

And I want something new
I feel it arriving out of the blue
Its taking me over slowly, you and me, 1,2

I could have been your passenger
I could’ve been your midnight stranger

When will thunder and lightning hit me from above
Is this better then nothing so I started a dumb conversation

Then suddenly its starting
And I want something new
I feel it arriving out of the blue
Its taking me over slowly, you and me, 1,2
Its taking me over slowly, you and me, 1,2
Its taking me over slowly, you and me, 1,2

I could have been your passenger
I could’ve been your midnight stranger
